Yes, confidentiality is one of the most essential parts of the therapeutic relationship. What you share in session stays between us, and you’ll receive a written informed consent form that outlines exactly how your privacy is protected. You’re always in control of your story, and I won’t share anything with anyone (including other providers) without your written permission.
That said, there are a few legal and ethical exceptions to confidentiality, which exist to keep you and others safe. These exceptions will be clearly outlined for you, before starting therapy. If these situations ever come up, we’ll talk through them with care. My priority is always to support your safety and well-being while honouring your autonomy as much as possible.
Private therapy services are not covered by OHIP but they are often part of insurance benefit plans. Check with your workplace plan to see if ‘registered social workers’ are included in your coverage. A detailed receipt will be provided to you, which you can use to submit to your insurance plan for reimbursement.
You can expect a warm, genuine relationship with a real human who is committed to meeting you where you are and working alongside you to reach your goals. I am trained in and draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), to explore the deeper roots to the things that are impacting your quality of life. Practically speaking, I use a secure online videoconferencing platform to meet with you. A link will be sent to you by email prior to our session.
You do not need to be experiencing a mental health or relational crisis (though these are great reasons!) to benefit from therapy. Many people choose to participate in therapy to improve their relationships with others and to discover their most authentic self. There are many great reasons to give therapy a try. If you are asking yourself whether therapy is “right” for you, chances are it is! You are always in the driver’s seat and can stop treatment at any time if you do not feel as though it’s the right fit or the right time.
At this time, I work exclusively with adults (18+) and do not currently provide therapy for children or teens.
